Abstract Background Herbs are an important source of pharmaceuticals. traditionally used by millions peoples for medicine, food and drink in developed developing nations considering that they safe. But, interaction herbs with other medicines may cause serious adverse effects or reduces their efficacy. The demand “alternative” has been increased significantly, which include medicine derived from plant herbal origin. objective this review article mainly focuses on drug interactions commonly along possible mechanisms. method adopted is searching herb-drug online database. Main text Herb-drug leads to pharmacological modification. use show pharmacodynamic pharmacokinetic interactions. Pharmacokinetic causes alteration absorption, distribution, metabolism elimination. Similarly, additive synergistic antagonist effect the drugs vice versa. Researchers had demonstrated toxicities like pharmacologically active compounds. There lack knowledge amongst physician, pharmacist consumers related action mechanism interaction. This danshen ( Salvia miltiorrhiza ), Echinacea purpurea garlic Allium sativum ginkgo Ginkgo biloba goldenseal Hydrastis canadensis green tea Camellia sinensis kava Piper methysticum liquorice Glycyrrhiza glabra milk thistle Silybum marianum ) St. John’s wort Hypericum perforatum probable mechanisms clinical manifestation based case studies reported literature. Conclusion lead side effects. Physician, patients must be more cautious while prescribing consuming these herbs.
